About the Author
Thomas J. Aicher is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, where he teaches Sport Facility and Event Management, Sport Selling and Analytics, and College Sport Administration. Dr. Aicher has been an active scholar, examining the motivations and meanings that people associate with participation in events, as well as the impacts associated with those events in the host communities. He has been published in leading academic journals, including the International Journal of Event and Festival Management, Journal of Travel Tourism and Marketing, Journal of Sport and Tourism, International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing, International Journal of Sport Management, and several others. Dr. Aicher earned his PhD in sport management from Texas A & M University in 2009. He holds a master’s degree in sport management from Texas A & M and a bachelor’s degree in marketing management from Virginia Tech. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Aicher worked for several sport organizations, including the Salem Avalanche, the Durham Bulls, and First and 10 Marketing. With the latter two organizations, he managed several sport- and nonsport-related events. He has continued his endeavors in event planning throughout his academic career.
